日記形式で書かれた小説に限らず、誰かの視点でその小説が書かれている場合その視点や思考は主観に過ぎず、そこにおける客観性というものを読者は「他者の言動」のみからしか判断することができない。では、その他者が真実を述べていなかったらどうなるのか。自分を騙そうとしているとしたらどうなのか。あるいは。……。
膨大な伏線とほとんど解決されないまま終わるそれら（かなり集中して読んでいたせいで少し泣けた）、もしくは無数の解釈が可能なそれら。そしてラスト。
読み終わった瞬間は消化不良な想いがじわじわと湧くけれど、東浩紀の解説によってその想い以上に驚嘆が広がる。阿部和重が好きならオススメ。自分が理解できていないのに言うのはなんだけど、芥川賞受賞作の「グランド・フィナーレ」よりはこちらの方を強く勧めます。

芥川賞作家になったわけですが、小説という表現形態で新境地に挑戦していく力は凄みを感じるほどです。インディヴィジュアル・プロジェクションは読み物としてもストーリーを追いやすく、楽しい。そしてもちろん、よく考えて読むと、深い、と私は感じた。どんどん話が展開するが、それをどうまとめて考えていくか、あるいは考えないか、それは読者次第。

　渋谷で映写技師のバイトをしている主人公オヌマが日記に自分の過去（スパイ養成塾の体験）と現在（塾生に纏わる話、たとえば塾生の事故死）を綴っていく形式で物語が語られてゆく。
　驚嘆させられるのは情報量の多さだ。スパイ、やくざ、恋愛、事故、映画、塾、プロトニウム、マックシェイク、フリオイグネシアス、女子高校生、右翼、喫茶店、コンビニ…。まさに情報社会の中に生きる僕らの世界が書かれているわけだ。そして暴力。暴力的な会話が魅力的だ。「クソッタレのクズやろうばかりだから、戦争したくて仕方がないんだ／こらオヌマ、馬鹿にすんなよ、おれはべつにあんたが好きだから奢ってやってんじゃねえんだぞ！」などなど。
だが情報社会、暴力といった主題にも関わらず、オヌマは思考を凝らす。というか小説の半分くらいはオヌマの思考内容だ（さらに言えば日記を書く行為自体が思考だし）。オヌマはすごく内省的な性格なのだ。暴力的なのに内省的ってとこが僕は好きだ。
　ちなみにめっちゃ読みやすい。あまり読書しない友人三人に勧めてもみんなおもしろいって言ってた。初心者は「グランドフィナーレ」よりこっち読んだほうがいいよ。
