　モーツァルトの伝記を読もうとして、はたして何が適当なのかよくわかりませんでした。今更子ども向けでもあるまいし、あまり長いのも読みきれるかどうかわからないし。そんな中でこの本は、文庫であることや図版が多いことなどから手頃でした。途中に挟まれている各界の人のエッセイは、この本が刊行された当時にしか通用しない内容もありますが、それはそれとして、１日で知ることが出来るモーツァルトの生涯という感じで良かったと思います。

　「音楽の神童」といわれたモーツァルトの生涯を綴る。カラー写真が豊富で視覚的に理解できるところがよい。しかも廉価である。こういったシリーズ物がもっとあったらいいと思う。
　父であり彼の音楽的才能の最大の理解者であったレオポルドとの旅の軌跡，故郷・ザルツブルグに対する複雑な思い，妻・コンスタンツェへの愛情・・・人懐っこい性格と言われているモーツァルトにも人知れぬ悩みが多かったことが知らされる。特に，晩年の貧困には並々ならぬ苦労があったようであり，同情を禁じえない。偉大なる音楽家の実像がつぶさにわかる。

この本は、カラーなので、写真や絵などがとても見やすいのが一番の特徴かなとおもいます。それと、章のくぎりなど、所々で色々な著名な方々のコメントや考えなどが２ページに渡って載っていて、とても参考になりました。私が思っていたモーツァルトは、神童と呼ばれ、演奏旅行をする華々しいイメージが強かったのですが、この本を読むと、実はお金に困ったり、いじめにあったりということを知り、なぜかとても悲しくなりました。最後の方に年表や曲目などが書いてあったので、とても参考になりました。
