純粋なミステリー小説ではありませんので推理とか謎解きなどを期待する
向きにはお勧めできませんが、競売という制度を取り上げて不動産業界の
内幕をあばきつつ、そこから波及した事件を描くという発想とかプロット
は秀逸です。カード業界、自己破産を描いた火車と同様です。
ただ、文体や話の展開がかなり冗長で読んでいるのがちょっとつらかった。
宮部みゆきの文章はかなり好みが分かれるのではないでしょうか。
競売の制度や仕組みなどをエピソードをからめながら解説してゆくのですが、
何も知らない子供に教えるようでしつこくてくどいのが難点。
また、登場人物をこう次から次へと掘り下げていっては長くなるはずです。
個人的に言えばこの小説、中身に比してあまりに長すぎる。３分の１か４分
の１ぐらいが適当ではないでしょうか。

東京荒川区の高層マンションの2025号室でおきた殺人事件を追ったルポタージュ形式のミステリー小説。
ミステリーといっても、ただ事件の謎の紐解きをする小説ではなく、事件に接点のある人々の過去から生活、考え方にまで焦点をあてて
詳細に描写しており、それぞれの登場人物が必然と偶然が絡み合って接点が生じ、一つの出来事に結びついてく様を見事に表現しています。
言い返せば、この事件の背景にはこれだけの要素があるということでしょうか。
また、この小説の中で、不動産に関する法律の抜け穴をめぐる争いや占有屋なる人たちがいるのを知りました。

小説の形式自体が異なりますが、
「火車」は、登場人物の生活や描写とミステリーがうまく融合し、
最後まで一気に読ませてしまうものがあったのですが、
「理由」は、登場人物の描写に重きがおかれて、
読者を休まずに読ませる小説のもつ勢いといったものが若干色あせてしまった感があります。

宮部みゆきは大好きで、
この小説はよく耳にしていたので期待して読みました。
結果から言うと自分には合わないな・・・という感じ。
いつも小説を読み出すと寝れなくなり朝まで読むことが多いのですが、
最初の方はどうも内容に入り込みづらく１〜２頁読むと眠くなり寝てしまいました。
頑張って読みきった感が否めない。
書き方が淡々とし過ぎている上にやたらと説明が長く、結構労力を使いました。
登場人物もかなり多いし名前も似たような名前で、章ごとにころころと
話が飛んでいくので自分には難しかったです。
価値観は人それぞれなので意見は分かれると思いますが、
初めて宮部みゆきを読む人にはあまりお勧めできないような気がします。
