哀しい名作。

休職中の刑事が、親戚の若者から頼まれたのは、失踪した婚約者を探すことだった。苦労して婚約者の知り合いを見つけ出して話を聞き、最後に写真を見せると…「別人です。あなたは別人の話をしている」。もはやただの失踪事件ではなくなっていた…

カードやサラ金地獄を背景に描かれる、現代の人間の悲劇。

読み終った時、言葉に出来ない割り切れなさを感じた。哀しいようないらだち。それは何だったのか。

本当に悪いのは、罪を犯した犯人ではなく、その人を犯罪へと追い込んだものたち。しかし裁かれるのはいつもその人だけで、犯罪へと追い込んだものたちは、その後も、何も変わらずに続いていく。

一体、誰が彼女を責められるのか。誰も彼女を救えなかったのに。

ちょっと冗舌なのが気になったが、おすすめです。

宮部みゆきさんの大ファンです。その中でもこの作品はNo.1ではないでしょうか？特に内容については記述しませんが登場人物が実にリアルに描かれています。そして何と言ってもあのエンディング・・・。読後感がしばらくぬけません。

私も何度も繰り返し読みました。クレジットカードの不透明性が割と身近に感じられて、飽きることがありません。 それから次から次へと謎が出てきては、それを解明するための小さな糸口が現れる。これほど巧みな謎解きはお目にかかったことがありません。
