著者略歴 (「BOOK著者紹介情報」より)

内田 百〓@6BE1@
1889‐1971。本名・内田栄造。別号・百鬼園。岡山市に酒造家の一人息子として生れる。旧制六高を経て、東京大学独文科に入学。漱石門下の一員となり芥川龍之介、鈴木三重吉、小宮豊隆、森田草平らと親交を結ぶ。東大卒業後は陸軍士官学校、海軍機関学校、法政大学のドイツ語教授を歴任。1934(昭和9)年、法大を辞職して文筆家の生活に入った。初期の小説には『冥途』『旅順入城式』などの秀作があり、『百鬼園随筆』で独自の文学的世界を確立。俳諧的な風刺とユーモアの中に、人生の深遠をのぞかせる独特の作風を持つ(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

　第三阿房列車は車掌(巻末の解説者)まで素晴らしい。それが誰かなどという無粋な紹介はしないが、阿房列車の常連乗客であれば即ち御理解いただけるだろう。さて、旅には突発的な出来事も薬味となることを本書で先生は教えてくれる。それが苦い薬味であろうと、効能は大いにあるのだろう。寝坊の先生が御贔屓の特別阿房列車「はと」ではなく珍しや「つばめ」に座乗する旅では、人生の至言を先生は思わず漏らしてくれる。そこには豊かさの本質を極めたことへの感嘆しかない。さあ、発車ベルの鳴り止まぬうちに最終阿房列車に乗りこまねばなるまい、威風堂々とステップを踏んで軽くボイに会釈を与えようではないか。

これだけ多くの小品群を一定のクオリティーを持って、書ききっている。どの作品が良いなどと、いうことすらできない。非常に粒がそろった文章。これが、プロのなせる技なのかもしれない。多くのものを学ぶとともに、感銘さえ受ける逸品。

第三阿房列車では百間先生は四国で高熱のためダウンしたりしています。
体調が悪くて時間がうまくつぶせないことを「なまけるには体力が必要」と
洞察したりしています。

途中、酒席に紛れ込んだ狐とか夢で見た猿とか、
夢か現実かわからないような箇所が出てきますが、
それもこの先生らしく人をくった感があって面白いです。
