重松作品の中でも私は特にこの作品が一番好きです。
ハードカバーも持っていますが、映画化されることもあって読み返したいという思いもあり、
旅のお供に、この文庫版も購入しました。

さまざまな「友だち」のかたちが描かれていますが、決してどのかたちが「正解」として
描かれているわけでもありません。ただ、どの人物たちの思いも痛いほど理解できてしまうのです。
つまり、それだけ自分自身を取り巻いてきた「友だち」環境にも様々なスタイルがあって、
自分も限りなくこの登場人物たちに近い体験をしてきていているのだということを、改めて
気がつかせてくれました。この感覚はきっと私だけが感じるものではないと思います。

大人となった今となれば「友だち」というカテゴリーは、決してひとつではないということは
理解できます。しかし誰もが、一度は「友だちって･･･？」と思い悩んだことはあるのでは
ないでしょうか。
思春期にこの本と出会っていたら、私の中の「友だち」という概念が変わっていたかもしれません。

私は誰かの「もこもこ雲」であるのだろうか。読後に思わず考えてしまいました。


あとがきには重松氏による、最終章にまつわるエピソードが描かれています。これを読めたからこそ、
文庫版も買って良かったなと実感ができました（笑）

子どもの頃、学校という小さな社会の中で誰もが感じたことであろうことや場面。
大人になってしまえばなんてことのないことが、友だちとの関係が、子どもの頃は一大事で、戦いで、それが全てだったことを思い出しました。
何が正しいとも間違ってるとも言わない、ただどんな場面でも、作者の視点からはあたたかくて優しい。
押しつけがましさもなく、どこか見守るような文章はスッと入り込んできて、自然と切なくなりました。
誰もがこの作品の中で、子どもの頃の自分に出会えると思います。
久し振りに本当に良い作品に出会えました。

恵美とその弟ブンをとりまく様々な人間関係を、時間と視点を変えて綴られた作品。
普通は、スポットのあたらないであろう舞台の端にいる人物にも、繊細で温かいまなざしを向けて書かれています。

みんなには好かれていないかもしれない.....
上手く生きられない...
何をやってもうまくいかない.....
いつもいい人ではいられない.....
八方美人....

それでも、いいんだよ。
生きていて、存在していてもいいんだよ。

そんな温かいメッセージを受け取ることができます。

読み出したら止まらなくて、タオルを涙でびしょびしょにしながら一晩で読んでしまいました。
