重松清の書く物語は「６５点の１日」だ。
１日の合格点を５０点だとするなら、
僕らのすごす毎日は、おそらく４５点だったり５６点だったりする。

でも、人の記憶の中に残るのは
“恋人にふられた１０点”の日や
“子どもが生まれた９５点”の日なんだろう。

中途半端な日のできごとは、忘れてしまう。

その、普通の人が忘れてしまう「６５点の１日」を
重松さんは思い出させてくれるのだ。

息子が少し大人にみえた日、
愛想をつかしかけていた自分を少しだけ見直した瞬間、
ひさしぶりに家族写真をとったいきさつ、
６５点のある１日だからこそ持っているリアリティーが、
色んな場面で、僕らの胸を気持ちよく締め付ける。


この重松さんの作品は、
何でもない日に近況報告を含めてムダ話でもしたくなる
兄弟のような小説だと思う。

　重松さんの小説はとても読みやすい文体かつ現実味溢れる会話でわりとさくさく読めるのですが、いきなり現実の厳しさが突如として現れるストーリーにまずどきりとさせられます。ライト感有る文体に隠された、重いテーマ性に気づいたとき、あなたはどう感じるでしょう?　
　この７つの短編にはそれぞれに現代社会の問題が描き出されています。人事ではない身近な不安がここにはあります。とくに「セッちゃん」の中で出てくる台詞に「だって、それが現実だもん」がこの本を象徴している言葉でしょう。しかしあえて作者はそれぞれに、ほんのりと希望の見えるお話として終えています。後記に書かれた作者のメッセージにその意図が語られています。
　私もその言葉を信じている一人です。いろんな人にこの「お話」を読んで欲しいですね。

３０代後半から４０代にさしかかった普通のサラリーマンであり父親。東京郊外の住宅街にあるマンションか小さな一戸建て住まい。妻がいて、思春期にさしかかる小学校高学年から中学生、高校生のこどもがひとりかふたり。職場では成功しているわけではないが地道な中間管理職として働き、自分の人生の枠組みが今の延長にあると決まりつつあるような感慨を持ち、「もう若くない」と自覚しているといった主人公たちの造形に限りない共感を覚えます。
「ナイフ」では著者は子どもの視点を忘れていないと感じましたが、本作ではこんな父親像を愛着をもって描き出しています。

家族がぶちあたる、子どものいじめや娘の異性交遊といった問題もまたどこにでも起こりそうな問題です。明確な解決がなされないのもまた現実の反映でしょうか･･･。

どの作品もどこかしら明るいのは、いろいろなことがあっても、解決されない問題があっても乗り越えていこうという声高ではないけれども、前向きのメッセージを感じることができるためでしょう。
