昔倭人と呼ばれた人々は、約五百年かけて西日本を統一し、その後約六~七百年かけて北海道と沖縄をのぞく「日本」という国を造った、という言い方も出きるかもしれない。それを「侵略」といっていいものかどうか。島国という事が幸いしたのかもしれないが、西洋と比べて大きな軍事力と軍事力の衝突は起こらず、大きな軍事力に少数民族(この言い方が正しいかどうかも自信がないが)が侵食されるという形で起こった。不公平貿易と差別政策、そして少数民族の日本民族への同化現象(その反対はほとんど起こらない)、これらは現代まで引き継がれた中央の｢やり方」である。「なし崩し的な侵略」といってもいいのかもしれない。

18Ｃ末、蝦夷地は「日本」に飲み込まれる最終段階に達していた。炎が消えるときの最後の煌(きらめ)き。私は今からその最後の物語を読もうとしている。一人の偏骨日本人が語ったアイヌの英雄譚として。

おもろい！ の一言につきます。
船戸与一は「猛き箱舟」が最高だと思っていたが、それ以上におもしろい。
（上）のプロローグ、そして本文を読んだ後、 エピローグ（下巻に掲載）、イイ。
物語の最後は作者のいつもどおりの終わり方で、それはいまひとつだが、
でもおもしろい。

実はまだ下巻を読んでいる最中ですが、この本はもう圧巻です。今年は、船戸氏の本を一気に15冊ぐらい読んでますが、「猛き箱船」を頂点にやや食傷気味になっていました。ところが、この本は当たりでしたね。たまたま私は、10歳まで北海道を転々とし、最後にいたのが釧路。遠足で厚岸へ行き、厚岸湾を高台から見下ろしたこともあるので、200年以上前にあの場所で、こんなすごいことが起きていたのか、と思うと感慨もひとしおです。
船戸さんの文章もドライブ感があり、あっという間に読めます。北方謙三さんといい、ハードボイルド系の人は、時代物も上手いですね。下巻の残りを読むのが楽しみです。
