ドイツに住みたい人、既に住んでいてもわからないことがいっぱいある人、旅行したい人、ドイツに興味のある人には特にお薦めです。辛口な部分もありますが比較的公平に書かれているし、楽しく読めます。ドイツに行きたくなります。

ゲーテ曰く「自分の母国語を理解するには、外国語を学ぶ必要がある」、これは何も外国語に限った話でなく、国民性の理解という話でも同じでないか、と思います。外国の国民性/文化の理解が深まると、それとの比較対照(コントラスト)によって、自国の国民性/文化の理解も深まります。(ベストセラー「世界の日本人ジョーク集」(早坂 隆 著)に挙げられているジョークのように、比較を通じて各国の国民性の違いが浮き彫りになる訳です)
そんなわけで、ドイツに行く予定があることもあって、この文庫本を手にとってみました。ヨーロッパの中でいちばん日本人の精神性に近いのがドイツ人かな、と勝手に思っていましたが、さにあらず。(^-^);; 頭の中で「ヘェー」ボタンを連打しました。一話が４−５頁読みきりを基本としていて読みやすい体裁です。時折出てくる直筆イラストも良いです。ドイツ(特にミュンヘン)に行く時には、ここに記載のある観光スポットを巡ってみようかなと思います。本書に挙げられている話題が予め頭の中にあると、ドイツ人との会話も楽しめそうですね。

アメリカ文化や韓流を始めとするアジア文化は入ってきます。
しかし、ヨーロッパの情報となると、あまり入ってきません。
ドイツのことになると皆無に等しいです。

20年近くドイツに滞在する著者が、日本人の視点から見るドイツ人の生活や社会保障について書いています。
逆に、ドイツ人から見る日本についても書かれています。
本のイラストは著者本人によるもので、街の情景が目に浮かびます。
ただ、ドイツのことを褒め称えるだけではなく、良い面と悪い面を客観的に紹介しています。
