２組の男女の恋愛を追いながら、「愛する」とはどういうことか深く考えさせられるとともに、個人偏重主義がはびこる現代で、他人を思いやり、他人のために生きるということは幸せなことなのか？という鋭いメッセージに強く心を打たれる思いがした。真実の愛に立ち向かう主人公の生き方には深い感動を覚える。生きる勇気が胸の底からじわりと沸いてくる独特の読後感は、宮本ファンならずともその虜にするだろう。

私にとっては、読み口はやさしく、結末はキツイ小説でした。私は男ですが、一言で、幸せ、思いやり、愛、などと説明されても結末はどうしても自分と折り合いを付けることができませんでした。

お勧めの小説ではあるので皆さんに読んで頂きたいのですが、一部の男性にとっては結末を覚悟して読む必要があるかもしれません。

一見いかにも現代的な成り行きの愛を描いているようで、実は思いやりの心について考えさせられる本でした。

登場人物みなが自分のことは後回し、他人のために一生懸命生きています。自分を犠牲にするのが美徳とは限りませんが、自己中心的な人間で溢れかえっている現代社会において優しさや思いやりの大切さを思い出させてくれる素晴らしい作品です。

宮本輝さんの他の作品ほど大好きな本とはいえませんが、中心となる登場人物ではない18歳の青年がガールフレンドを評した　『あいつのいいところはなんでも他人のせいにしないところ。他人のせいにしない女はなかなかいない』　という台詞が大変気に入っているため５つ星とさせていただきます。
