北京、上海、香港、黄河、長江、発展途上の国、共産党の国...断片的で大雑把でちょっと古い中国情報しか知らないことに気づいて本書を手にしました。
各省ごとで大きく異なる気候、地形、歴史、文化、民族に中国の広大さと複雑さ感じた。
各省ごとで抱える経済問題の違いから、中国の政治や人間の活動を感じることができた。
本のサイズ、各省にさかれたページ数、価格どれもお手ごろです。文体も読みやすいと思います。今後、中国に関する報道が増えるでしょう、中国に行く機会もあるでしょう。そんなときにすばやく基本的な情報確認するのに良いのではないでしょうか。

中国に興味がある人でも、省名や都市名が出てきて、ぱっと場所が浮かぶ人は少ないはず。中国内での位置関係なども含め、各地の歴史的・経済的事情を知るにはとても良い本です。
今後、中国の勉強や旅行を考えて居る人は、手元に置いて、地名が出てきたら調べるべし。
（中身をすべて覚えるのは、私の頭脳では無理でした）

各州の個性がコンパクトにまとまっており中国の初心者には役に立つが、文章が冗長で読みにくいのが難。またプラクティカルな分、本としての面白みには書ける一面がある。
