モハメッド・アリをプロレスのリングに引出し、異種格闘技路線ではミュンヘン・オリンピックの金メダリストのウィレム・ルスカや熊殺しの極心空手ウィリ-・ウィリアムスと闘った「燃える闘魂」アントニオ猪木の自伝。意外なことに小さい頃は、臆病で引っ込み思案、喧嘩が大嫌いだったとか、思わず「えっ!」というエピソ-ドがたくさん出てくる。その他にも借金で首が廻らなくなり、自殺を考えたりとか、元奥さんの倍賞美津子さんに「悪霊が憑いた」と言って除霊を頼んだりと面白いエピソ-ドが沢山出てくる。参議院議員時代の第一次湾岸戦争での日本人人質救出劇では自腹で飛行機をチャ-タ-して人質となっていた人々の家族を伴ってイラクに乗り込み人質解放に成功したときの裏話(日本の外務省が妨害し!たとか、)なども考えさせられる。我々凡人とは思考のスケ-ルが違う、という話が沢山出てきて面白い。猪木ファンに絶対お薦めの一冊。

僕は格闘技ファンであり、猪木が大好きだった。
新日本プロレスの初代タイガーマスクの頃が
中学生で、熱狂的だった。まわりの柔道部の仲間も
プロレスファンは多かった。週刊プロレスを創刊号から
書店に配達してもらっていた。
猪木は世界一強いと信じていた。
この自伝に書かれている猪木は
弱さも強さも書かれている。

Ｍアリとの異種格闘戦前の感じた恐怖、
生涯通じて背負っていた借金など
人間猪木を感じた。読んでいて感動した。

一人のスーパーマンの物語と感じた。
ビデオの解説を見ても実に知的であるが、この一冊でもそのことがよく分かる。
力道山の直接の弟子、怨念の空手チョップを見た男。力道山は何より喧嘩が強い、というのが面白い。
外務省の役人の築いた外交ルートをいとも簡単に飛び越える話も痛快である。やはり猪木は超人である。

少年時代からプロレス引退までの本編を全て読んだ後、
エピローグの最後のメッセージが心に響きました。
