本書は1998年に刊行され、その後1度文庫本化され、それをさらに今回文庫化したもので、パソコン通信などといった言葉が出てくるなど、内容はやや古い。
が、合法・非合法の変わった職業の人々が、それぞれの職業にある程度ブライドを持って仕事をしていることがわかり、それなりに面白かった。特に初っ端の悪徳興信所には、「これなら私もはめられかねない」と驚いた。
またインタビューだけでなく、本人の体当たり体験版も笑えた。

　悪徳興信所、競馬予想屋、野球賭博師、ゴーストライター、ヌード撮影の仕掛人など、12種類の「怪しいお仕事」を取材して書いた本。姉妹編とでもいうべき「危ないお仕事」を書いている著者であるが、「怪しい」の方が古い時点の記事をまとめたものであり、パソコン通信など今読むと少し違和感のあるものもある。（この本は、1998年風塵社「怪しい人びと」⇒2001年新潮ＯＨ文庫収録⇒2006年新潮文庫化）
　著者のユニークな点は、取材に至る過程が書き込まれていたり、話を聞くだけでなく著者自身が体験取材したりするところ。でき不出来はあるが、「へえーっ」と引き込まれる部分もある。ただ、１話当たりのページ数が少ない（12の仕事で260〜270ページ程度）ためか、興味深い部分でもさらっと流してしまう点があり、「なんでもう少し突っ込んで聞かんのじゃ」と思う部分もある。
　全体としていえば、それなりに興味深い本なので、読んで損はないと思います。

こういう突撃レポートは、レポートする人のキャラクターを知っていると面白さが増す（逆の場合もある）のだが、顔を知っているだけでもかなり違う。そういう意味で、本書が著者の顔写真が載っている新潮文庫から出版されたのはポイントが高い。

作品自体は１０年前のものなのだが、文庫化に伴う追跡取材は殆どされていない。そこが欠点とも言えるが、「レポート」の面白さが失われるものではない。著者によると連絡がつかない人ばかりで取材自体が不可能だったのだそうだ。当たり前か…

本書は著者が怪しい職業の人達にインタビューするという形式を取っているのだが、どう見てもカタギには見えない著者（人は良さそうだが）の取材光景を頭に浮かべながら読むと、たまらなくおかしい。なかでも、著者自身がチャレンジした怪しいお仕事「寝室覗き屋」は、著者の仕事中？の姿や表情を想像しながら読むと爆笑である。これだけで★５つ進呈！

「寝室覗き屋」。あきらかに下半身に関する職業であるが、一体どんな職業か？そして、著者は何をしたのか？興味のある方は買って確かめてみて下さい。
