真保 裕一
1961(昭和36)年生れ。アニメーションディレクターを経て’91(平成3)年、『連鎖』で江戸川乱歩賞を受賞しデビュー。『取引』『震源』と続く通称“小役人”シリーズで着実に読者を獲得する。’95年の『ホワイトアウト』が人気を決定づけ、翌’96年吉川英治文学新人賞を受賞。’97年『奪取』で山本周五郎賞、日本推理作家協会賞を受賞した(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

選挙ものの小説はこれまでにいくつか読みましたが、それらのどれとも違うテイストで楽しめました。お金もコネも限られている状況でどう知恵を絞って準備、競争するか、有権者を集めたミニ集会、街頭演説、マスコミへのPR等々選挙運動をどう進めるか、とても具体的な課題が次々に浮上。主人公と立候補者、その他支援者との人間模様も面白いプロットで描かれている。「資金繰りを１円単位で情報公開する」という試みは小説ながら、なるほどそれは面白いと思わされました。気持ちと理想のみを掲げて選挙を戦う姿勢は、青臭いと言ってしまえばそれまでですが感情移入させられる部分も多々ありました。

この本は会社を辞め、妻子とは別居している主人公が高校時代のライバルに請われ、彼の出馬を助ける秘書となって様々な問題に立ち向かう小説です。気持ちがいいのは、お金やコネを一切使わず、理想のみを掲げて選挙を戦う姿勢です。この姿勢は現在の政治に嫌気がさしている人にも共感できるところだと思います。敵陣営に色々邪魔されながらも頑張っていく姿勢には共感できます。あっという間に読み終えてしまいました。お勧めです。

真保さんの著書でとても楽しく読んだ後も気分爽快になれた本でした！

選挙、テレビやマスコミで実際に報道される部分は本当に終盤戦なんですね。
立候補予定者は、もうずっとずっと前から綿密な準備をしておかなくちゃ
いかん。これにお金がかかるのですが主人公達はこれを
ボランティアや仲間内で智慧を出し合い、なんとかしようと奮闘。

内容も固いキマジメな話ではなく、高校生時代の恋バナだとかもあり
とても楽しく読めます。
とにかくサイコロを振ってみよう！この言葉大好きです。
