　日本と西洋、集団と個人、傍観者と当事者などの狭間にある「境界」というものに、思いをめぐらしたエッセイ集。著者の筆致、境界線を見つめる眼差しには、静かだけれど凛とした透明感が湛えられていて、清々しい心持ちになりました。

　この文庫化に際して久しぶりに再読したのですが、やはり気持ちのよい文章であり、ひそやかに深くものを見つめる方だなあと、その思いを新たにしましたね。ざっくばらんに言ってしまえば、読んで気持ちのいいエッセイ。はっ　とさせられたり、すとんと胸に落ちてきた文章が、あちこちにありました。

　「向こう側とこちら側、そしてどちらでもない場所」「境界を行き来する」「隠れたい場所」「風の巡る場所」「大地へ」「目的に向かう」「群れの境界から」「物語を」の、全部で八つのエッセイ。著者の魅力的な物語、『村田エフェンディ滞土録』や『西の魔女が死んだ』『からくりからくさ』などと確かにつながっている糸の絆のようなもの。素敵だったな。

　文庫解説は、ノンフィクションライターの最相葉月。著者・梨木香歩のほかの作品とからめて、その魅力的な作風と味わいをたどって行く文章。読みごたえ、あります。

　カバー装画もいいですね。二本の木の間に、うっすらと開いた目みたいな池で泳ぐ水鳥が一羽。静かなたたずまいのこの絵は、南桂子の「公園」。

自分に近い「ぐるりのこと」について考えをめぐらせたエッセイです。
決して簡易な文章ではないですが、ちょっとしたことにも思索をめぐらせて自分なりの考えを導き出していく梨木さんの文章にじっくりと浸ることができました。
この作家さんの言葉は小説でもエッセイでもとても丁寧で大好きです。

中では特にヘジャーブの女性とカメラのお話が印象に残りました。
深く考え、共感していても時には無神経なこともしてしまう。
そういうこともあるのだというエピソードは、ほっとしたり気を引き締めたりと複雑な感情をくれた気がします。

ゆっくりと読みたい文章です。

自分の周りの「ぐるり」について考えていくエッセイ。
いわゆる「読みもの」としてムリヤリ整頓した文章ではないので
その思索過程について行くには、読者も日々思索することを強いられます。
よって、巷のエッセイの「軽さ」はあまりないかもしれません。

ただ、懸命についていったわたしは･･･ある意味救われました。
他人への怒りや悲しみに逃げずに丁寧に考えていく著者の姿勢に
うしろからそっとついていく。必要なのはそれだけです。
著者の、他人を含めた生きることへの切実さが伝わってきます。

絶望を感じている人は、きっとなにかが見えるはず。
幸せを感じている人も、きっとなにかが見えるはず。

両者に見えるものは、もしかしたら同じものかもしれません。
