石田 衣良
1960(昭和35)年、東京生れ。成蹊大学経済学部卒業、広告制作会社を経てフリーランスのコピーライターに。’97年(平成9)年9月「池袋ウエストゲートパーク」でオール讀物推理小説新人賞を受賞し、続篇3篇を加えた『池袋ウエストゲートパーク』でデビュー。2003年7月『4TEEN』で直木賞受賞(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

ストーリーはどこにでもあるようで、平凡で陳腐過ぎる。
それよりもおかしいと思うのは、少年たちの会話だ。会話の内容だけ取れば、中学生の会話というよりも、高校生に近い。しかも友のために泣いてくれる場面が多いが、そんな中学生っていないと思う。
著者は解説でロケーションは面倒なので自分の住んでる月島を選んだと述べてるが、ロケーションどころか中学生までもリサーチしなかったのだろうか?ここに出てくる少年たちは、なんも調べないで著者の頭にある「中学生」を文字に起したようにしか見えない。だからこんなに大人すぎる中学生ばかりが登場するのだ。読書好きにとっては、理想論まみれのこの作品に直木賞に値する力があるとは思えないし、元中坊の男の子にとっては、これは「中学生」じゃない。当時の僕が読んだら「なにスカしてんだ!」と怒るだろう。
青春って、もっとみっともなくて、最低にカッコわるいもんだ。

少年犯罪が多い現代、この本を読んでいるとまだまだ純粋な子供はいるのだなと思ってしまいます。舞台が下町で、少し子供にしては人情くさい気もしましたが、素朴でやさしい少年達の話が描かれていてとてもよかったです。

『波の上の魔術師』は最高だったのに
どうしちゃったの？石田 衣良様　という感じでした。

１作目は良かったけど、その後の話　

どれ一つとってもワザとらしい。
”構成”が手に取るようにヨメテしまうし
簡単に人を殺すなというかんじで
在りえない構成に無理に引き出す意味不明の感動（青春？）・・・

わざとらしさがまるで映画の『グリーンマイル』という感じでした。
石田 衣良は大ファンなのでどうしちゃったの？とおもい
一番最後の本人の解説を読んだら本人も自覚してるかのように
”訳　ﾜｹ”を書いていました。トホホ・・
