この作品には良質な時代エンターテイメントの要素が豊富にそろっている。

魅力あふれる主人公を個性的な脇役が固め、それを最大限に引き出すさりげない描写。一話々々のストーリー性と、連作全四巻をタペストリーのごとくつむがれひとつの流れを作る登場人物の人生と歴史的事件。

これらの要素が藤沢周平の清々しい風景描写とともに描かれるのだから悪いはずが無い。

これは連作第一巻。基本的には短編一話完結なので、途中でやめてもかまわない。気軽にトライしてほしい。しかし、読み終えれば次をすぐさま読みたくなるでしょう。

用心棒日月抄は、まさに藤沢文学の結晶である。主人公の動作の描写、まわりにいる人々の人情、そして赤穂浪士とのからみあい・・・・すべてが完璧である。一度読み始めたら止まらなくなること間違いなしだ。物語を通して、藤沢周平の人間的な暖かみが伝わってきて、心にしみ通る。だからこそ、殺伐とした江戸の生活を書いているのにもかかわらずこの物語は優しく、読後感もさわやかなのだ。文句なしに星５つである。

昔の経営者は歴史小説の愛読本として、司馬遼太郎作品を挙げることが多いが
藤沢周平氏は普通のサラリーマンに愛好家が多いといわれている。
それは藤沢周平氏が為政者の立場の物語ばかりではなく、市井の人々や下級武士の愛惜を
綴った物が多いがためだと言われている。
今の日本のように為政者や経営者だけが多くの幸や利権を分捕り、まるで奴隷のように
働かされながらも薄給で、なおかつ過酷な世間を生きなければならない被支配者層である
我々にとっては、藤沢周平氏のそれら数々の小説は今の時代背景と不思議と相重なって
本当に心染み渡り、温かく包まれるような感覚を覚えてしまうのではないでしょうか。
当作品はＮＨＫのドラマにもなった程なので、ストーリーが娯楽性に富み
万人が楽しめる時代小説だと思います。
