巻ごとに、読むスピードが加速していって、5巻、6巻は続けて読破しました。

道中での人との出会いのすばらしさ、不思議さが語られているのが私にとってこの本の一番の魅力です。沢木さんがであった人々に私も会いたくて、旅への欲求が募っていきます。

ただ終わり方が、あまりにもあっけなかったような気がします。6巻にわたる長い旅の記録ですから、最後にまとめ的な要素がほしかったと読者の立場から思います。それともこれは旅の終わりではなく、次の旅への引導なのでしょうか。

アジアの熱狂から始まった旅がヨーロッパに入り、いよいよ終わりが近くなってきた。当時学生の頃、香港から寝食を忘れて読み進めてきたので、このあたりになったら旅が終って欲しくないとの思いでページをめくるのが怖かったことを思い出しました。

内容に関しては言うまでもないと思います。
学生時代に巡り合った最高の本の１つです。

初めてこのシリーズを読んだのが大学３年生の時でした。そのとき、もっと早くにこのシリーズに出会えれば良かった・・・と本当に思いました。以来、何回もこのシリーズを読んでいます。

沢木氏が旅を経て成長していくのがとてもよく分かります。「旅は人生に似ている」そんな言葉がシリーズの後半になると何回か出てきますが、まさに旅の本質を言い当てているのではないかと思います。

旅好きな人だけでなく、ちょっと自分の人生に迷っている人、行き詰まりを感じている人もぜひ読んでみてください。自分の中で「何か」がきっと変わりますよ。
