　この「深夜特急」シリーズは、全巻どれも気に入っていて、何回も読み返しては、自分もいつかこんなルートで大陸横断してみたいと憧れるのですが、特に私が気に入っているのはこの五巻目の旅です。

　一巻目のマカオや香港の旅から伝わるエネルギッシュさや、一方で六巻目のいかにも旅の最終章にふさわしい、ヨーロッパ大陸の先まで辿り着いた著者の感慨深い思いもいいのですが、しかし、この五巻目に描かれていたギリシャやトルコの人々との交流には、一番胸にじんわりと来るものがありました。

　国は違う者同士だけれど、言葉を交わさなくても、ただニコニコしているだけで十分気持ちが通じ合っていた時間・・・そんな時間がもてる場所は三十年近くたった今も向こうにはあるのだろうか、それを探すために自分も旅行してみたい、そんなことを思わせてくれる章でした。

旅にも幼年期、青年期、壮年期、老年期とあり、この巻では壮年期にあたる部分を描いている
確かにエネルギッシュに前へ、前へというよりは、何か心の隙間を埋めるように、それを
求めて前へ進んでいる印象を受けました。

個人的にはトルコ編はほのぼのとしていていいなぁ〜と思います。香港のスターフェリーも
いいですが、こちらのアジアとヨーロッパを往復するフェリーは本当に羨ましいなと、、、
朝起きて、朝食を食べ、散歩してから食料を買いフェリーで風に吹かれぼーっとして、また
帰ってくる、たったそれだけの事がものすごく贅沢に思えてくる。

ギリシャ編では、スパルタの廃墟で出会った老人の件が感慨深いですね。年をとって好奇心
が磨耗しても人とだけは関わりたいというのがやっぱり素直な所なんだろうなぁ、、、
散歩してたらいきなりバースデーパーティーに誘われる件も、読んでて癒されます。やっぱ
人と人との繋がりはいいなと。

地中海からの手紙の章では、今までの旅の事をなかば自棄になって顧みてたりしますが、ほ
んと人生の壮年期と同じですよね（笑）。

最後にいったい何を得るのか、次の巻が楽しみです。

著者が、バスを利用してのユーラシア大陸横断を行った際の旅行記です。ただ旅行記といっても有名な観光地に行くといった旅行ではなくその町に行って人とのふれあい、また街の雰囲気から行く場所、滞在期間を決めるというきわめて自由な旅行です。
読めば何かを感じさせてくれる数少ないほんのひとつです。
