全ての話が面白いようにさまざまな話に展開していく。
決してばらばらな話になるわけではなく、計算しつくされた
作者のセンスと頭のよさを感じる。

特に「しんじまってうれしいぜ」という章を読んだ男性で
共感しない人はいないのではないだろうか。若いうちに一度、
そして壮年になったときにもう一度。深く読み込みたい書。
あなたの人生のお供に是非。

こういった文章というのは書き手の人としての魅力が大きく反映されるものだと思う。沢木さんがとりとめもなく話すのを、講演会という形でだが一度だけ聞いたことがある。沢木さんは旅に出ると必ずおもしろい目に遭うというようなことを話されていた。たぶんそれは同じ時間同じ場所にいても必ずしも味わえる体験ではないだろう。沢木さんという一人の興味深い？魅力的な人間の存在が手繰り寄せる経験である。日々起こることに対する感受性が高い人でもありそうだ。
女性であっても「死んじまってうれしいぜ」にはひどくロマンを感じる。
男性ってあんまり恋愛にロマンを感じないのでしょうかね？と思わないでもないけれど、そういう違いをこれっぽっちの反感もなく読めるのはとてもうれしい。人間同じ一生生きるなら、物事に敏感に、こんな風に生きてみるのも素敵だなぁ。

この本は昔予備校時代に先生の勧めで読みました。当時18,9歳だった僕は、これほどまでカッコイイ本があるものかと感動した覚えがあります。その後著者をTVで見かけ、この本には彼の人柄が出ていたことを再認識したりしました。シンプルでしみこむように読めるので、ちょっとした息抜きや一日の終わりに読むといいと思います。

ちなみに、読後何度かバーボンを飲んだのは言うまでもありません。
