恩田 陸
1964(昭和39)年、宮城県生れ。早稲田大学卒。’92(平成4)年、日本ファンタジーノベル大賞の最終候補作となった『六番目の小夜子』でデビュー。2005年『夜のピクニック』で吉川英治文学新人賞、本屋大賞を、’06年『ユージニア』で日本推理作家協会賞をそれぞれ受賞した。ホラー、SF、ミステリーなど、さまざまなタイプの小説で才能を発揮している(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

恩田陸先生の作品はいくつか読ませていただきましたが、
わたしはこの作品が一番好きです。
高校生活のビックイベントである『歩行祭』。
ただ目的地に向かって歩くだけなのに、その一瞬すべてが愛おしいと感じさせてくれました。
友達との他愛のない会話、盛り上がるランチタイム。そして、流れゆく風景。
あたりまえのことなのに、
そのとき、その瞬間にしか存在しないのだと思うと、どこかせつなくなります。
青春という言葉とはまったく無縁だったわたしの高校時代。
もう一度、あの頃に戻って青春をしたくなりました。

非常にさわやかな作品。
登場人物達の作り出す作品全体に漂う空気感が非常に良い。
自身の青春時代を思い起こさせてくれる作品。
青春時代の単調な日々や、小さな出来事など身の回りのすべての出来事が、如何に貴重な経験であり、それ自体が「青春」であったことを感じさせてくれる作品。
作品中「もっと青春しておけばよかった」という台詞があるが、多くの大人がこのような思いを持っているのでは？
忘れかけていた青臭い気持ちを思い出させてくれる作品です。

誰もが高校時代に経験する修学旅行…の代わりの歩行祭をテーマにした作品。
ぼくは80kmもの距離を歩いたことはないけど、
本書読了後は、ほんとに歩いたような気分になりました。
ただ歩くだけ、という行事をこれほどの物語に纏めるとは、
恩田陸先生の筆力というのはほんと凄いですね！

この本は、今、まさに今高校生である人よりも、
むしろ卒業して数年経ち、あの頃を懐かしく思う人向きでしょう。
なぜなら、真っ只中に居る人は、その時間のありがたさに気づきにくいものだからです。
そういう人には本書はややくどいかも知れませんね。
