文章が歯切れ良く、読んでて気持ちいい。独特のリズムがあって、「江戸っ子だねぇ」と言いたくなります。（私は江戸っ子ではないので　そんな気がするというだけですが。）控えめながら硬派な印象で　かっこいい。

洗い張りなど着物の手入れ、髪結いの話などを読むと　今の日本人はなんと手軽でラクな生活をしているのだろう…昔に比べて　すっかり怠け者ばかりになってしまってるんじゃないかと思いました。自分の怠け癖も治さねば、と反省。

著者　青木玉の母は幸田文、祖父は幸田露伴。
二人の遺した着物とそれにまつわる思い出話を綴った本です。
文庫本だけれど美しい写真が多く、着物を見せてもらいながら話を聞いているような贅沢な気分が味わえます。写真が多く着物用語の簡単な説明もあるので着物を知らない人でもわかります。幸田文の読者で着物に詳しい人ならすごく楽しめるのは確かです。

思い出の中の幸田文は、やんちゃな所のあるお母さんかな。
幸田文の小説のイメージから縞柄、格子柄はぴったりという気がするのですが、無地の綸子や優しい植物柄の刺繍の加賀紋には正直少し意外な感じがしました。あと江戸小紋が出てこないのも。

３０代の頃の日本刺繍の作品（花柄の半襟）、綺麗で必見です。
そして彼女の友禅のお布団。着物ではあまり着ることのなかったという花柄。こんな素敵な布地の夜具を楽しんでいたなんて、とてもオシャレでゴージャス！です。

本を開くと着物や生活の様々な思い出話を通じて、著者と母そして周りにあった密度の濃いしっとりとした時間がこちらにも流れてきそうな感じがします。
着物、夜具、晩年の出来事などを、ここまで書けるのは長年身近で過ごして来た女性の家族だから。
幸田文に著者のような家族が居らして、読者の一人として幸せを感じます。

著者のお母様である幸田文さんの講演を一度だけ伺ったことがある。
階段教室で「おとうと」の映画を見た後に、ただ一学年だけ、400名弱の贅沢な空間での講演だった。闊達な江戸言葉に圧倒されたものの、その時のお着物は地味な縞模様で、着物も何も知らない私には、「地味~なおばさん」にしか見えなかった。
自分がいま、あの頃の幸田文さんと同じような年になり、着物にも興味を持ち始めもして、もしあの時の戻れたら、おそらくあれは大島で、あんなに粋に、肩肘張らずに着物を着こなす素晴らしさに、まず感嘆したものを…と思う。
凛としたあの空気は彼女の生き方そのものだったのだと、娘、玉さんの筆によって改めて思い知ることのできる、この本は私にとって貴重な一冊となった。
