1984年に講談社から出た写真集の文庫化。かなり判型は小さくなっているが、それによるマイナスはあまりないと思う。もちろん、心から楽しみたいのなら、もとの写真集を入手すべきだが。
　岩合光昭氏は、仔猫や仔犬を可愛らしく撮るのが上手い。本書でも遺憾なく発揮されていて、微笑ましかった。なかでも印象に残ったのは、牧場に連れて行かれ、牛におびえている海ちゃん。牛はむしろ友好的なのだが、そりゃおびえるだろう。
　仔猫好きの人におすすめ。

実在していた１匹の猫「海ちゃん」の生涯を写真とともに記述した本です。
猫の写真集の多くは、名前の知れない猫たちを何らかの風景の中で撮影した
ものが多いかと思いますが、この本は１匹の猫を時の流れに沿って追って
いっています。珍しいと思います。

猫はカメラが何のための道具か、理解できないと思いますが、撮影のとき

にはカメラマンの岩合さんと遊んでもらっているような気分でいたのでしょ
うか。海ちゃんと岩合さんとの間のコミュニケーションのようなものも、
この本からは感じられるような気がします。そして、見ているだけで、
いっしょに海ちゃんと遊んで（もらって）いるような気分になってきます。

猫が好き、
日本人で初めて『ナショナルグラフィック』に起用された
岩合光昭氏が好き
という理由でこの本を購入しました。
岩合夫婦がお寺から海ちゃんを引き取ってどんな風に育てるのだろうと
わくわくしながら読みました。

びっくりしたのが海ちゃんをアウトドアに何度も連れ出していた
ということです。
ハーネスも、リードもなしで。

我が家では、にゃんこちゃんが
ベランダにの手すりの上を歩いているだけで
はらはらどきどき、
ドアの隙間から共有部分の通路に飛び出しては
大騒ぎで捜索願いという毎日なのです。

こうやっておおらかに野外活動に連れ出してもらえる
海ちゃんがうらやましいと思いました。

残念だったのが、長女の薫さんが誕生する時に、
実家に里子に出されたこと。

私には子どもがいません。
しかし、私自身の子ども時代は
猫がいつも家族の一員でした。

猫にひっかかれたことがあったかもしれない。
噛み付かれたことがあったかもしれない。
猫が連れて来たウィルスのために病気になったかもしれない。
しかし、私の記憶の中では
「猫がいて困った」ということは一つも残っていないのです。

「岩合夫婦は猫とお子さんをどのように共存させたのだろう」
という点が３つ目の購入動機であったので、
そこが期待はずれのため★ひとつ減点しました。
