若くも美しくもない女性（孫がいる）が主人公で、
生活が細やかに描かれた時代小説というのは
ありそうでなかなか見あたらない。

敵討ちなどのネタが入っていても
斬った斬られたの緊迫はほとんどないし、
「お家のため」の苦さも、男性作家のそれとはまた違う描写。
隣家の娘が針を習いに来て、
居候の子供たちが食べ物を奪い合ってとっくみあいをして、
そういう日常の中で、
主人公は味噌や米をやりくりしながら、しっかりしようとする。
女性のための時代小説。

お鳥見役の矢島家に、仇討ち絡みの２組の居候が住み着くことになる。しかし、女主人である珠世はその人間的な柔らかさで暖かくくるみこみ、様々な出来事と対峙していく~
簡単に言うと、そんな話なのですが、後はごゆっくりお読みください。
私は現在も続いてる（小説誌で）の連載でこの作品のファンになり、文庫本も買いました。続刊のために書棚を空けなくては(笑)
女性をターゲットにしているようにも思えますが、男性諸氏の感想もぜひ聞いてみたいと思います。

幕府御鳥見役として隠密を務める矢島家の、女房・珠世が主人公。
その矢島の家に、５人の子を抱えた浪人者が身を寄せる。
さらに、その浪人を仇と狙う娘を次男が連れて来て、少禄の狭い家に７人の居候が転がり込む。
当主が隠密の仕事で旅立ち留守にした１年間、一家に襲いかかる子供の誘拐や、父親の恋愛など様々な出来事を、珠世の機知と情愛で解決していく。
ほのぼのとした心温まる一書。
