’83年10月、ロッキード裁判一審で田中角栄元首相に懲役4年、追徴金5億円の実刑判決が下りた。’84年3月には「グリコ事件」が発生、「劇場型犯罪」が世間を騒がせる。このころ司馬遼太郎は『箱根の坂』を刊行、『韃靼疾風録』の連載を開始している。この巻は、「捨てられかけた日本語」「文章における耳と目」等の日本語論、環境問題を論じた「訴えるべき相手がないまま」など63篇を収録。

司馬 遼太郎
1923‐1996。大阪市生れ。大阪外語学校蒙古語科卒。産経新聞文化部に勤めていた1960(昭和35)年、『梟の城』で直木賞受賞。以後、歴史小説を一新する話題作を続々と発表。’66年に『竜馬がゆく』『国盗り物語』で菊池寛賞を受賞したのを始め、数々の賞を受賞。’93(平成5)年には文化勲章を受章。“司馬史観”とよばれる自在で明晰な歴史の見方が絶大な信頼をあつめるなか、’71年開始の『街道をゆく』などの連載半ばにして急逝。享年72(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)
