テレビドラマ化されたのをきっかけに買い求めた本ですが、思いのほか面白かったです。前半は主に、調子にのった男たちの都合のいい生活が描かれていますが、果たして最後まで笑っていられるのかしら？と思っていたところ・・・・。下巻まで一気読みです。有吉佐和子は裏切らないなぁと思いました。この小説が書かれた時代が昭和40年代だとは思えないぐらい現代にそのまま通じる内容でした。

　一気に読みました。ここにでてくる女性たちの気持ち、痛いほどよくわかります。住み込みの看護婦や付添婦の立ち居振る舞いまで、さすが有吉先生。鋭い描写です。
　また、昭和40年代の作品ですから、登場人物の「お着物」にも注目。特に、ラストシーンの小柳夫人。きゃああ、かっこいい。
　昭和42年の日経の連載小説であった、というのもいいですね。毎朝、こんなのを会社の重役連がお読みであったかとおもうと、楽しいです。

淡々と物語は進みます。
小心者で男の誇りもない（という印象を私は受けました）男とその妻、男とと愛人の人間関係が淡々と進む中で、最後に交差する・・・・。
それまでの男女の心理を女性の立場から鋭く観察されていると思います。
全く休むことなく、数日で読破できるテンポのよさとおもしろさです。

私はもう少しカラリとした描写が好きなので、星4つにしました。
