猛暑に温暖化防止で控えめな空調温度でも、この本のお陰で心底「寒さ」を感じました。
勤務先も、利用者の為に開館中は涼しいのです（図書館）。
クールビスで閲覧室に入ると、ちょっと寒いくらい。
その上この本を読み始めたら・・・私はクーラーが嫌いになってしまいました。

それにしても寒い。

本当に実在した人間なんて信じ難い。しかし、本当に生きていたのですね。
それも日本人。
新田次郎さん自身の幼少期の経験が、こんな作品を描かせる源流になっているのではないだろうか？

ところで、「寒い」のは気温のせいだけじゃない。
主人公フランクを、たった一人で北極海に放り出した船の乗組員。
懸命に人々に尽くしぬいた主人公を、強制収容所に連行した戦争。
真冬ではなく真夏に読んだからこそ、人間による「寒さ」に身震いがした。

でもフランクは、人間として勝ったのだと信じる。
それは、今彼を語る人々がいるからである。
そして、著者の新田次郎さんにも感謝。
貴方の作品によって、偉大な人生の勝利者の生き様を知ることができました。

苦難に負けない人生を、私も懸命に生きていこうと思う。

現実に存在した主人公の生き様や，
そこでの会話や心情描写がマッチしており，
生き方についての一つの示唆が得られるものではないでしょうか。

「筋を通す」「自己を強く持つ」などいくつかのキーワードとして，
捉えられると思うのですが，とても言葉では言い尽くせません。

自身がどう生きていきたいと願い，どのようにそれを実行していくか。
それを考えるために，より多くの引き出しを持っておきたい，
そして人生の様々な場面での考えるベースを築いていきたいと思います。
