自分がこれまで読んだ本の中でもっともおもしろかったと言って過言がないほど圧倒的な迫力、緻密な知識、構成が絶妙なバランスをもって重畳的に織り込まれている作品。

サスペンスとしても楽しめるし、現代社会に対してありもしない希望と自由の幻想の上で成り立っているものと批判する寓意的小説として読んでも優れていると思う。砂に囲まれた家での思い通りにならない生活と望めば何でも手に入るように見える現代社会・・・優劣はどちらだ・・と・・

砂が絡み付いてくるようで、読んでる途中に何度もシャワーを浴びたくなる描写にも嫌悪感を感じながらも引き込まれていきます。
読んで損は全くなし。

この作品は、安部公房の中で、唯一「普遍的な高み」に達していると思います。というのは、その他の作品の、他人の顔、壁、箱男、密会、方舟さくら丸、そしてカンガルーノートといった作品は、どれも極端な「特殊」の部類に入っているからです。ですから、安部公房の作品を何か読みたい、と思っている方は、是非この作品を読んでみることをおすすめします。文学的な含みがたくさんあり、無限の広がりを見せる作品だからです。多くの比喩にも着目してみて下さい。安部公房の「実験」が、文学的に最高の高みに達したのが、「砂の女」といえるでしょう。（なお、この作品を読んで、安部公房の他の作品にも触れてみるのもよいでしょう。ただし、着想やイメージが極端に特殊化しているので、多少「砂の女」とは温度差を感じるかもしれません。しかし、そんな安部公房の世界を探険してみるのもよいと思いますよ。）

20年以上ボロボロになるまで繰り返し読んだ特別の作品です。内容はすっかり覚えてるのにそれでも読みたくなるこの心境を伝えるのは難しい。
砂に埋もれた集落、一般社会から切り離されたこの世界に迷い込んだ男は砂に囲まれ囚われの身となり日々脱出を夢見て砂と格闘する。一緒に暮らすのは砂しか知らない孤独で無知な女。
安部さんの作品は解釈を考え込むと難解な所が多いと思いますが、私はそんな事無視、ただ単に面白くて独特の世界に惹き込まれる感覚がクセになってるんです。
