倉橋 由美子
1935‐2005。高知県生れ。明治大学仏文科に在学中の1960(昭和35)年、同校の学長賞に応募した小説「パルタイ」が入選。選者の平野謙に文芸時評で推奨され、また芥川賞候補ともなった同作で、’61年の女流文学者賞を受賞。’63年には、その作家活動により田村俊子賞を受けた(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

主人公のニヒルな少女とその父との近親相姦を軸に、物語は展開する。作家倉橋由美子の鋭い批評家精神と反社会派精神が横溢する名作である。彼女は『パルタイ』や評論集もいいが、私としては最後はこの作品に帰ってきてしまう。のちの『反悲劇』や『ヴァージニア』などになると、独特の語り口が少々鼻についてくるのだが、『聖少女』はそのあたりの配分が絶妙になっていて、このあたりが作者の仕事の最高潮なのではないかと思わせる。背景に当時の社会風俗なども窺われて、その点も面白い。

この小説は現代日本文学の不滅の金字塔なのに、なぜか不当に黙殺されている。なぜだろう？　それは未だにこの作品の前衛性と革新性が理解されていないためでもあり、それは裏を返せばこの作品への嫉妬に他ならない。

父と娘の近親相姦を巡る物語を軸にしながら、時折ジュネ的であったり、いまどきの質の悪い大衆小説にありがちな消費社会のフェティシズムを提示してみたり、読み進めるほどに万華鏡のようにその世界がくるくると変わっていく。そのコラージュ的な世界は今の間抜けな大衆小説が無意識のうちに真似ているものだ。そして読者は圧倒的な虚無の中に投げ出され、唐突に物語は終わってしまう。

そう、これはあくまでもコラージュによって美しく作られた「物語」なのだ。このように自己という薄汚れた恨みがましい主体を語ることなく紡ぎ出された言葉に嫉妬しているのだ。この作品が不当に評価されているということは、日本の「物語」の未成熟を物語っている。

まずは一読あれ！

今は故人となった作者が評する通り、この作品は作者の最後の少女小説でしょう。主人公・K=僕のヘンリーミラー調の語りがたまりません。今や当時の風俗は古くなってしまいましたが、本質のラディカルさは消えません。これ以降、作者は徐々に、桂子さんシリーズに代表される様、ただの保守になってしまいます。
