私は温泉好きである。数ある温泉本をあれこれと読んでもいる。その中でこの本が一番よいと思う。 作家山口瞳の独特の眼で見た各地の温泉、そこに生きる人々、そして愛すべき同行者たち。 中でも「温泉好きな重役」のエピソードには笑ってしまう。自分にも似たところがあるからだろう。 お風呂と温泉の好きな全ての人々に読んでもらいたい。

5.0 out of 5 stars 「現代の百鬼園先生」としての山口瞳, 2006/3/6
山口の文学を考える上で「先生」高橋義孝の「先生」である百鬼園先生は
高橋に劣らず避けては通れない人物である。間接的影響としては、
百鬼園先生の文章の基調をなしている「俳諧的リアリズム」が高橋経由で山口に
伝わっているのが興味深い。しかしその一方で数多い紀行において山口は
百鬼園先生の『阿房列車』を色々模倣しており、山口の最後の紀行である
本書はその「集大成」である。『男性自身』の真面目な文体とはまた異なる
（内田に劣らない）軽妙洒脱な文体が縦横無尽に駆使されており、「スバル君」
「UK君」達「慎重社」の編集者と山口のやりとりも百鬼園先生とヒマラヤ山系氏と
のそれにも劣らない面白さであり、「旦那」としての山口を知る上でも必携の書である。

　1985年に出た単行本の文庫化。
　日本全国20ヶ所の温泉に入りまくる本。単なる温泉ガイドではなく、きちんとした紀行文になっているので面白い。特に、東京を出発して目的地に着くまでが詳細に語られているところが良い。集合時間よりずっと早く東京駅に着いてしまうこと、夜行列車で眠れないこと、同行する編集者について。旅は、目的地に着くまでが面白いのだということが良く伝わってくる。
　宿屋や湯の評価、食事について、わりと忌憚なく語られている点にも好感を覚える。
　山口瞳に独特の、辛口なような嘆き節のような文章に酔うことの出来る一冊。
