初めて読んだのは中学生くらいでした。
松本清張独自の、昭和のにおい、生活のにおいが行間からあふれてきます。文章なのに目に浮かぶ景色や主人公たちの生き様です。中学生には鬼頭さんが強烈でした。
大人になってみると民子のいきあたりばったりの悪女っぷり、華やかにみえて底にひやりと冷たいもののある生活、久恒刑事の生臭いところなど、ドラマてんこもりで何度読んでも面白いことこの上ない。
裏世界をのぞいて、その世界に生きた気持ちになれる面白い小説です。

清張の政界の裏側暴露路線の代表作。「けものみち」とは当然、山の中で獣しか通らない道の事で、転じて通常の人間なら通らない道を通る悪い奴らの事である。しかし、何度もTV化され、TVでは視聴率を考えヒロインを中心に描くので、悪女ものと称されるようになってしまった。

物語は、政治の世界とそれにタカル奴らを描いた重厚なもので、清張の取材力あるいはコネクションの強さを感じる。女は男が政治家に取り入る道具として使われるのだが、そうした世界に次第に染まって行くうち、徐々に女自身が悪女に変容していく描写も巧み。そういう意味では"悪女もの"という形容も外れてはいないのかもしれない。

政界の闇の部分を描きながら、女の悪女への変身振りも取り入れた清張の政界の裏側ものの佳作。

米倉涼子主演でドラマ化されている作品である。松本清張の悪女系の作品はすっかり米倉涼子が独占している感があるが、この「けものみち」も「黒革の手帖」と同様に、悪女が、自分の周りに群がる男どもを肥やしにしつつ立身出世していく話である。人の欲望が底なしであることをこれでもかというくらいに丹念に描いており、なかなかドロドロとしているため、読後感もハッピーエンドの小説に比べれば当然よくないが、これ以上どんな悪があるのだろうという期待感が高まって引き込まれてしまい、また展開もスピーディーで面白い。たまにはこういう小説を読むのもよい。
