星 新一
1926‐1997。東京生れ。東京大学農学部卒。1957(昭和32)年、日本最初のSF同人誌「宇宙塵」の創刊に参画し、ショート・ショートという分野を開拓した。1001編を超す作品を生み出したSF作家の第一人者。SF以外にも父・星一や祖父・小金井良精とその時代を描いた伝記文学などを執筆している(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

中学生の頃、初めて読書の楽しさを教えてくれた作家が星新一さんでした。
それから十数年が経ち、星新一さんの本はまったく読まなくなりましたが、
新潮文庫の100冊で偶然発見し、装丁の綺麗さで衝動買いしました。

他人の夢(寝ているときに見る)を通じて、
人生において大切であろう優しさ・思いやり・夢(目標としての夢)を
気づかせてくれる作品です。
ストーリー前半ではこの作品の真意が見えず、平易な文章が足かせになりましたが、
それに気づいてからは平易な文章が効果的になり、一気に読んでしまいました。
平易な文体が、読者に考えさせてくれる余裕を与えてくれているのでしょうか。

個人的には、本編中の
　6.ほほえみ
　8.道
の話が好きです。
特に、｢8.道」のストーリーは、人生ってこんなものなのだろうかと考えさせられました。

優しさ、目標としての夢、思いやり、希望を少し忘れかけた時にそれを思い出させ、
あたたかい気持ちにさせてくれる作品です。
人生にちょっと疲れたなーって言う大人にお勧めしたいです。

懐かしさで星一つプラスして、五つ星にさせていただきます。

「夢」を題材にして、ここまでつくりあげるのは、さすが 星新一 。
「夢」の見方が 人によってどれだけ共通するのかは わかりませんが、
僕の場合は ぴったし でした。
自分がそこにいて、第三者というか、カメラマンの視点になってる。まばたきで シーンが切り替わる。とか・・・

サイエンス・フィクションらしく、話の道筋を整えるのは、
物語ではなく、星さんのかわいさであります。
童話よりかは、『銀河鉄道の夜』に近いのではないか、と思います。

短く書ける人が、長く書くのは それなりに意味があるのだ。

ひとつひとつのエピソードは幻想的にさらりと書かれていますがその根底には哲学的な深い意味が感じられます。現実世界とは？常識とは？善悪とは？等、哲学の難問に著者なりのユーモアであっさり答えているようで非常に痛快でした。主人公が少年ということで、文体も簡素で明快なため童話のようなほのぼのとした物語ですがよくよく読み込むと非常に深く、面白い命題がちりばめられています。
