星 新一
1926‐1997。東京生れ。東京大学農学部卒。1957(昭和32)年、日本最初のSF同人誌「宇宙塵」の創刊に参画し、ショート・ショートという分野を開拓した。1001編を超す作品を生み出したSF作家の第一人者。SF以外にも父・星一や祖父・小金井良精とその時代を描いた伝記文学などを執筆している(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

　寓話の復興を目標とした星新一（「気まぐれ博物誌」所収の「人間の
描写」より）の作品の中でも、特に強烈な社会風刺を感じる作品集。
　多様化する犯罪動機，その後の犯人認定過程，そして刑のあり方な
ど，現在，大きな問題となっていることに対して，新鮮な視点を提供し
てくれる表題作「白い服の男」、当初の予想とは異なる形で目標を達成
してしまう「特殊大量殺人機」などを含めた全10篇。
　根源的な問いかけこそ、ＳＦの使命である（「気まぐれ博物誌所収」
の「ＳＦの視点」より）という姿勢が如実に顕れている。

本書は1968年10月に早川書房より刊行された「午後の恐竜」の後半の10編を収録したものです。前半の11編は新潮社文庫「午後の恐竜」に収録されています。

1000編を越すSF短編小説を残し、ショートショートの神様と呼ばれた星新一さんの作品10編を収録。

短編なので読みやすく、それでいてしっかりオチがついていて、時には自分の考えの及ばないような意外性のある結末に感心し、自分とは違った新鮮な考えに触れ、ものの見方や考え方が広がったような気がします。また、星さんの作品は後世多くの人々に読んでもらえるようにと、具体的な地名や人名といった固有名詞をなるべく登場させないことで、通俗性を出来る限りなくし、読みやすく分かりやすい文章で書かれてます。そのため老若男女を問わず大いに楽しむことができると思います。

おもしろいです！
便利になった世界や未来の世界の矛盾など
やっぱり最後にはおぉっと言ってしまうもの
ばかりだと思います。星新一の世界を
存分に楽しめる一冊ではないかと思います。
