星 新一
1926‐1997。東京生れ。東京大学農学部卒。1957(昭和32)年、日本最初のSF同人誌「宇宙塵」の創刊に参画し、ショート・ショートという分野を開拓した。1001編を超す作品を生み出したSF作家の第一人者。SF以外にも父・星一や祖父・小金井良精とその時代を描いた伝記文学などを執筆している(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

本書は1968年10月に早川書房より刊行された「午後の恐竜」の前半の11編を収録したものです。後半の10編は新潮社文庫「白い服の男」に収録されています。

1000編を越すSF短編小説を残し、ショートショートの神様と呼ばれた星新一さんの作品11編を収録。

短編なので読みやすく、それでいてしっかりオチがついていて、時には自分の考えの及ばないような意外性のある結末に感心し、自分とは違った新鮮な考えに触れ、ものの見方や考え方が広がったような気がします。また、星さんの作品は後世多くの人々に読んでもらえるようにと、具体的な地名や人名といった固有名詞をなるべく登場させないことで、通俗性を出来る限りなくし、読みやすく分かりやすい文章で書かれてます。そのため老若男女を問わず大いに楽しむことができると思います。

一気によんでしまいました。
どれも楽しかったですが、
特に『華やかな三つの願い』が気に入りました。

電車やバスの中で気軽に読めるし、ショートショートってやっぱいい。
星新一ってやっぱすごい。

作文をするとき特に創作のときに、そのときの潜在意識が反映されがちになる。
陽気なときは視点が陽気になり、凹んでいるときは批判的な表現になる。

これはとてもわかりやすい潜在意識チェックだ。
我ながら大発見だと思っているが、これを友だちに話すと「そお？　違うと思うけど」という答えが返ってくる。
彼は、創作をしないからだと思っている。

さて、午後の恐竜である。
ショートショートが11編入っているのだけれど、これは星新一が凹んでいるときに書いた小説集なのではなかろうか。

どれもオチは暗く、悲しい、あるいは寂しい。
編集者ももっと気分の多彩な構成にすればよいのに。
まるで、楽しくなれるものを取っていったら、最後に残ったものを集めてしまいました。
という感じだ。
