星新一の小説、ショートショート。この本には42編の作品が収載されている。星新一の本は読みやすく、飽きやすい僕にも最後まで立ち止まらずに読むことができた。作品中で特に印象に残ったのは、「処刑」と「殉教」の二作品。他の作品では、ショートショートならではのあっと驚く結末、そしてどんでん返しという形で僕は楽しんだが、この二作品は、大どんでん返しというよりは、強いメッセージ性を感じた。僕は自分のかんじた事を言葉にするのはとてもへたくそなので、何がいいたいかを考えたり、レビューに書くのはふさわしくないと思うからあえて言わないが、興味のあるかたは読んでみるのもいいと思う。

「ボッコちゃん」と並ぶ初期作品集だが、あまり評価がなされていないように思う。「処刑」「殉教」などは、その思弁の深さでカフカや安部公房の作品に並ぶ、あるいは手法の鮮やかさで勝るかも知れない。公式デヴュー作の「セキストラ」、習作時代の叙情的傑作「小さな十字架」など、心に残る傑作が多い。もっと読まれてしかるべきかと思う。

5.0 out of 5 stars 「読書に縁のない小学生たちの食いつきがよかった本」, 2004/11/1
さすがに６年生が対象ですが、ショート・ショートということで、
「どこからでも読みはじめられる」
「すぐに結末までたどりつくことができる」のが、好評の理由だったようです。
けれど、収録作品の中で、一番ウケがよかったのは「処刑」。
長編に分類される作品であり、異色と言われることも多いようですが、
一読後、考えることがとても多かったようで、皆、活発に意見交換をしていました。

そんなことを抜きにしても、本棚に、鞄のなかに、しのばせておいて損のない一冊です。
