いしい しんじ
1966(昭和41)年大阪生れ。京都大学文学部仏文学科卒。’96(平成8)年、短篇集『とーきょーいしいあるき』(『東京夜話』に改題)刊行。2000年、初の長篇『ぶらんこ乗り』刊行。’03年『麦ふみクーツェ』で坪田譲治文学賞受賞。’04年『プラネタリウムのふたご』、’06年『ポーの話』、’07年『みずうみ』が、それぞれ三島賞候補に(本データはこの書籍が刊行された当時に掲載されていたものです)

惜しみない愛情を注がれながらも
ごく狭い世界で単調に暮らしてきたポーは
無垢で無知な少年に育っていた

ある日　ポーは　天災に遭い
やむなく故郷を巣立つ事になる

外界の様々な人々との出会い・別れを通じ
欠けていた彼の心が補われてゆく
まるで　まっさらな画用紙に
色絵具が塗り付けられていく様だった

何の為に　どう生きる（死ぬ）のか
己は何によって生かされていくのか
その答えが　ようやく見えた頃
ポ−の長い旅は終わりを迎えるのだが
それは　新しい物語の始まりでもある

生き　死んでゆくものたちの想いは
ウロボロス(作中ではウナギ)に象徴され
終わりから始まりへ　一つの輪になり
次代へと循環していく

情愛を注ぐ対象を意識して生きる事は
自己と世界との繋がりを濃厚にする

大切な事を再確認する為の物語

いしいさんの本は大概追っかけていたのですが、この「ポーの話」はタイトル通りの話です。
淡々と童話のように悲しいものも優しいものも書き上げるのが印象的な方でしたが、この本ではより一層それが濃く感じられました。
よくもわるくも、うなぎ女の息子の「ポー」という少年の物語です。
読み終わった後には今までにあったような爽やかな安堵感はあまり得られません。
何も想像力のなかった少年が成長していく様に重きをおいています。
友情も大切なものもよくわかっていなかったポーには色々なものが欠けています。
それを取り戻すため様々な状況下で様々な感情にポーは襲われますが、それでもつぐなうため（それだけではないのでしょうけれど）にポーは生きていきます。
あくまでこれはポーの物語。
それを取り囲む人々の人生も流れているのですが、物語のラストへの収束のさせ方がいしいさんらしくて、ついついホロリと来てしまいました。
