”織田信長”を題材にすれば、そこそこの読者と売り上げがついてくる程好まれる故、粗悪な作品も多いのだが、辻　邦生氏の描いたこの書物は、数ある信長ものの中で傑出した表現で、読んでいるというより、この場で”観ている”感を覚える。

一度読み終えると読み返さない私だが、この作品においてはそれをやってしまった。

5.0 out of 5 stars ヨーロッパ人も驚嘆した信長の美意識。, 2006/1/4
南蛮船の船乗りの書簡により、日本人は見出せなかった信長が生き生きと蘇る。

鉄砲隊や鉄の軍船がヨーロッパ人の案というのには、賛同しかねるが…大海原を越えてはるばるヨーロッパからやってきた宣教師に共感を覚え、彼らにのみ心を開く信長像や安土城や城下町の姿は新鮮で、なるほどと思うこともしばしば。

安土の教会堂に安土城と同じ青い瓦を使わせたり、安土の街の明かりを消して安土城をライトアップさせたり、安土城の各層の内装に宗教的テーマを描かせたり、ヨーロッパ人をも驚かせた信長の繊細なまでの美意識。

信長は、同時代の世界においても類なき天才だったに違いない。

私は引越す事が多いので、その度町の図書館に大部分寄付するのが慣わしです。
歴史小説もかなり読み漁りましたが、そんな私が結局手元に残した歴史小説はこの作品。
五感はもとより、信長の心象風景までをも、読者の心中に像を結ばせる、まさに名人上手の技を見る思いです。
