前作「麺地創造」がヒットだったので、迷わず購入。方向性は前作と同じだが、掲載件数が増え、濃密な巡礼の一助になるし、巻頭の全域マップ等は実際のうどん巡りの時に重宝する。
「お笑い色」が強く一般的な旅行ガイドとは一線を画すものであるが、これほど、讃岐に行きたいと旅情（というのか、うどん恋慕というのか）を喚起されたのには正直驚きである。

また、味・食感以外に紹介の力点が置かれている讃岐うどん屋のシステムにも注目である。実際、完全セルフなんて、経験したことがないわけであり、店頭でフリーズしたらどうしようなどと、読んでいて本気で心配してしまうのである。そして、私は「自分でね」と、どんぶりを手渡されたが最後、本当にフリーズしてしまった。

　前作、『恐るべきさぬきうどん-麺地創造の巻』に続く第二弾。ただし、前作を読まなくても楽しめる。
　もともと『タウン情報かがわ』という地域誌に連載されていた「ゲリラうどん通ごっこ」が、1993-99年にホットカプセルから『恐るべきさぬきうどん』全４巻にまとめられ、出版された。本書はその３巻と４巻を再編集して文庫化したもの。
　コンセプト、方向性、文体は前作と変わらず。マイナーなうどん屋を一生懸命さがして、豪快に食べ、食後の感想をひとくさり。しかし、前作の二番煎じにはなっていない。むしろパワーアップしている。本自体が厚くなっているし、好き勝手なことを書いているし、うどん屋のマイナー度が高まっている。
　しかし、本書を読んで実際に香川を訪れてはいけない。現実のうどん屋はこんなに楽しいものではない（味は保証）。店は見つからず、やたら時間はかかり、つくりおきのうどんに当たったりと、なかなか上手く行かない。本書を読んで讃岐うどんに興味を持ったなら、むしろ、香川に移住してじっくり腰を据えてうどん探訪することをお奨めする。

讃岐うどんフリークの聖書です。言い過ぎかな、でも此の本の存在が無ければ現在の讃岐ブームは無かったのではないでしょう。
