3.0 out of 5 stars なるほど、こうきたか。, 2006/8/20
読むほどにキャラクターに愛着が湧いてくる。
一章ごとに登場人物と場面が入れ替わり、それが終盤に向かって段々近づいてゆく。この辺りの展開の巧さは流石。
不思議な事件、奇妙な人物、不可解な謎が次々と現れるが、謎解きや明確な答えは何も与えられない。しかし、それが不思議と不満には思わない。
人は、答えのない物語に惹きつけられるのだろう。

ファンタジーとSFの世界のような、それでいて登場人物の行動はリアルに迫ってくる。
頻繁な性的描写や泥臭い人間の行動など、これまでの作風からの変化に賛否両論のようだが、面白い物語ということは確かだ。

毎度のことながら、村上春樹氏の書くものは心地よいものです。
はっきりとした社会的なテーマがあるとは思えないけれど、
読むことで自分が成長できます。

私が本作でもっとも好きなキャラクターは、星野青年です。
彼は上巻では、影の薄い存在ですが、下巻で大活躍をします。
あまり勉強が得意でない若きトラック運転手の彼が活躍する姿は、
新鮮であったし、彼と同じように勉強が得意でない私は彼の姿から勇気を与えられた気がします。
彼は、ナカタさんと行動をともにすることで、人間的にも成長していくのですが、その成長を見届けるのも楽しいことでした。
彼は、以前には興味もなかった、クラシック音楽を聴き、哲学についても考えるようになります。
人間は、彼のようにいつでも変化できるのだと思うと、やはり勇気を与えられます。

この少年は断固として１５歳なんかじゃないな。
語り口もやってることも感じていることも、聴いてる音楽や、（部活と関係なく）黙々と身体作ってるとこも全然１５歳じゃない。
確実に壮年期のオッサンだ。

それでも彼は１５歳なのだ。
だから悲しいのだ。

結局、自分の心と身体が完全に一致して生きてる人なんてそうそういないのかもしれません。
でも普段は一致してないことにすら気づかず日々の仕事に忙殺されているのが私達なんだと思います。
例えばホシノちゃんみたいに。

上下巻通して大好きだったナカタさん、あなたの生きた意味はちょっと地球レベルじゃ計れない何かなんでしょうね。
そうとでも思っておかないと、泣けてくるのです。
