Today is a good day to die. 今日は、死ぬにはいい日だ。ひとつの言葉が自分を変えるのに大きな力を及ぼしてしまう。こんなことは人生の中で一度あるかどうかである。
インディアンの言葉であるこの言葉に遭遇したときに、自分の人生の目的が見え、その日からインディアンになろうと奮い立った木戸寛行氏の絵本である。過労のあまり死と肩をならべていた後に、ナンシー・ウッドによるインディアンの言葉を集めた本と出会い、それが木戸氏の運命を大きく変えた。「これからは、いつ死んでも後悔することのないように、一日一日を過ごそう」その３日後にインディアン・ネームを手に入れるためにアメリカへと向かった。
毎日の生活が忙しくて自分というものを考えることもないまま過ぎて、ふっと立ち止まった時に足元だけ見つめている自分がいる。視線を徐々に広げていくと周りの雰囲気がガラリとかわっている。歩き続けて求めていた場所とは違う。。。あぁ茫然自失・・・
死ぬ覚悟でアメリカに渡ったのに、生きる喜びを手にした彼の心のメッセージの絵本だ。

もっとシンプルに、もっと前向きに生きて行こうよって気持ちになれます。

忙しい日々を過ごしている人にお勧めです。
ふっと気持ちが軽くなるちょっとした言葉の旅行です。
