四季折々の雨の名前の数だけ、その土地その土地固有の豊かな暮らしがあるのだと思わせる内容です。 また、雨の名称の解説とともに添えられているいくつかの エッセイは、作者の息遣いを介して日本人の（それも女性としての）こころの起伏、メリハリといったものを正確に伝えています。

プロでも雨そのものを撮るのは技術的に難しいと思われますが、雨に濡れているモノをカメラマンの感性で表情豊かに切り取っているので、見ていて飽きません。都会の管理され過ぎている空間を離れた雨の景にふれたいときにはとてもふさわしい一書です。

この本を開いたとき、ああ、日本にはなんて美しい言葉があるのだろうかと感動した。雨を表すのにこんなにもたくさんの言葉が使われるのは日本だけでしょう。 この本をによって、日ごろはうっとおしい感じられる雨も愛おしくなるのではないでしょうか。 ぜひ、読み、眺めてください。

雨の音は、とても癒される。
災害規模になれば、
そんなことはいえないが。
景色が水墨画のように
滲むところがたまらない。
この雨はどんな名前？

雨の名前は素敵である。
色艶、甘味、花の名の雨
動物の名の雨は怪しげ

「惨雨」という雨があった。
惨めと読む。
この本には、惨雨を
さびしさを募らせる雨といった。

四季に分け、季節知らずの雨も集め
エッセイと写真でつくられた
まほろば歳時記の第１集目。
