『武満徹全集』第3巻の「映画音楽(1)」には、1956年の日活作品「狂った果実」から、1969年の「弾痕」まで55作品が収録されます。本全集編集部では、これらのいわば幻の初期作品をオリジナル音楽テープや、サウンド・トラックにまでさかのぼり、探索致しました。その結果、幻の30作品を初CD化し発表します。武満の残した美しい旋律、ジャズからポップス、そして荒木一郎の歌う流行歌までが甦ります。羽仁進の「不良少年」、勅使河原宏の「砂の女」、篠田正浩の「心中天網島」、小林正樹の「切腹」「怪談」など、日本映画の黄金時代を築いた名作の数々。それらのいずれもが武満徹による音楽だったことに改めて驚かされるはずです。武満の音楽の神髄は、この映画音楽にあるといっても過言ではありません。

この全集の意義はたいへん大きく、本としてのできも申し分ない。しかし、この映画音楽の巻については、確かに珍しい録音も多く貴重ではあるが、映画音楽を細切れに映像なしで聴くのはいささかつらい。編集者のご苦労はよくわかるしその存在意義は重いのだが、音楽として聴くとき、なにか中途半端な感じがしてしまうのは否めない。たとえば「砂の女」をかつて劇場で観たときに感じた武満の音楽のインパクトは、ＣＤからは感じ取れないのだ。武満も映像と切り離して音楽だけをこんな形で聴くことに１００％満足していたわけではあるまい。その音楽のすばらしさを否定するつもりはさらさらないのだが・・・。

そう言って差し支えないくらい、武満は映画を愛し、
映画監督たちも武満の音楽を愛した。分厚い解説書(この解説書が
また素晴らしい)の最後に並ぶそうそうたる面々がそれを物語っている。

一つ文句を付けるとしたら、「怪談」「切腹」「砂の女」といった
60年代の傑作がビクター「武満徹　映画音楽」シリーズに収録されていた

武満自身による編集バージョンと同じで、使用された全ての曲を
収録していない点だろう。
(アニメでよく使われる「砂の女」の「ジャン!」とか)
とはいえ、これらの作品はだんだんDVD化されており、補完可能。

「武満ってあの難しい音楽の・・・」と言う人の鼻を明かすには
ちょっと高いけれども。
