西和辞典の中では収録語数が最大級なので、専門的にスペイン語を学習する場合、必ず必要になってくる1冊。
大学の第二外国語課程1年目の初級文法講座では和西付きのコンパクトな辞書が適しているだろうが、2年目以降の講読に入ると、このレベルの辞書でなければ載っていない語が徐々に目につくようになる。

大きいので、旅行で携帯するには重すぎる。机の上で勉強するときに参照するのが中心になるだろう。
やや値が張るが、情報量が豊富なのでそれだけの価値はある1冊だと思う。

少し嵩張るのが難点ではありますが、表現法や挿絵も豊富でまさに最高の一冊です。私のようなスペイン語翻訳の専門家にも十分に使える充実した内容です。

スペイン語初心者のころは他の西和・和西が一つになった比較的薄い辞書を使っていましたが、勉強をすればするほどその辞書では役に立ちませんでした。買い替えなければいけないのはわかってましたが、どれがいいのかわかりませんでした。スペイン語を勉強している大学生の友達に聞いたら西和中辞典がお勧めと言われたので即購入。持ち歩きには重いですが、長期留学するなら重くてもこの本じゃないと駄目でしょう。そして現在薄い辞書で語彙の数に不足を感じているなら間違いなくこれに買い替えることをお勧めします。

90年代前半の初版発刊以来改訂されてないからＥメールを表わす語すらのってなかったと思う。改訂版がでてから購入したい。
