定評あるプログレッシブ中辞典を、学習特化辞典として書き改めた本。
高校生が使うにふさわしい。高校入学直後から大学生はじめまで使える。
最低でもジーニアス・ルミナス・グローバル規模の辞書をすすめる高校教師が多く、特にジーニアス英和辞典を推奨する教師は非常に多い。
が、冷静に高校生の程度を考えた場合、この辞書あたりがちょうどいい。

中辞典級の辞書を購入すれば満足感は得られても、使いこなす事は難しい。
高校生諸君も、上級辞書に憧れず、本書あたりが最適なことに気付いて欲しい。高校生の日常学習から大学受験まで、高校（浪人・大検）生活の大事な相棒になる。
ただカタカナ発音がないので、ちょっと辛い面もある。カタカナ発音が嫌いな人はいいが。

本書はちくま学芸の酒井著『どうして英語が使えない？』の中で絶賛されている。確かに、英語と日本語の差異をよく理解した辞書である。

訳がとても日本語らしくできる点が気に入っています。文法説明も詳しく、例文も豊富なので、細かい単語の意味の違いや、使い方がよくわかります。また、名前の通りプログレッシブ英和中辞典の簡易版なので、実力がついたらそちらに変えても、混乱せず抵抗無く使うことができます。ただ基がレベルの高い辞書なので 、始め使い慣れるのに少しかかるかもしれません。
