5.0 out of 5 stars ちょっとした日本人向け解説が非常に良い, 2007/5/12
この辞書は２版、３版、４版と使い続けている。一頃はマイクロソフトレファレンスCD-ROM辞書にも搭載された。anotherの用法、解説記事が具体的で情報発信型の英語をビジネスで使う身に最適だったので購入したのが発端だった。親本のランダムハウス英和が改訂されていないのが残念だが親本の編集データを使っているらしいので日本人向けの解説や注意が適切かつ一番詳しい。新語はポケプロの著者の堀内さんが編集委員で収集しているので辞書に載せるべき新語も載っている。現状では中辞典でビジネスで使うには最良の選択でしょう。これと語数の非常に多い大辞典とロングマンなどの英英辞典、シソーラス辞典、インターネット上の各種辞書を組み合わせて使っています。外出時には電子辞書も使いますが単語を覚えるには紙の辞書が良い。

　大学の外書購読（経済学）に、この英和辞典の初版を利用した。
語数が多く、TIME等を読むときでも、困らなかった。
その当時、訳がこなれていないのは気になったが、
語法、語源ともすばらしい。
語法に関しては、最初の編者であった小西友七さんの流れが、
ジーニアス英和辞典に受け継がれている。
　研究社の英和大辞典を買うまでは、

この辞書は本当に役に立った。
Bookshelf2.0では、この辞書が採用されていて
電子辞書でも活用した。Bookshelf3.0は研究社の
英和中辞典になり、少し寂しくなったが、
今でもBookshelf2.0と見比べている。
　この辞書は第4版になって、ますます進化している。
学習辞典というよりも、大学の専門課程の辞書として
活用する方がよい。二色刷は、とても見易い。

大学生レベルで辞書を一冊だけ選ぶとすれば、
これがおすすめであろう。

　高校入学の折に、第２版を購入し、大学受験やその後の試験などにも大いに重宝した。しかし、第２版では最新の単語がないので、第４版が出たと知り（最近だが…）購入した。

　私の２版が古いせいなのかもしれないが、デザインから構成まで全く違うのに驚いた。確かに単語の収録数は増えたし、また最近の時事問題の単語にあってはかなり補強されているとは思う。しかし、例文がかなり削除されていることを残念に思う。他の辞書に比べ、語法もさることながら、例文の多さも特徴的だったように思うのだが…例文を参考に学んできた人間にとっては痛い。そして、熟語も削除されしまったものがややあるように思う。例えば、多様な意味で使われる単語「as」の項目では、２版ではかなりの紙面を割いているが、４版ではそこから4分の1程削除されているように思われた。少々頁数が増えても、載せて欲しいと思うのは私だけだろうか。

　けれども、他の辞書よりも意味も豊富に載っているのはさすがだと思う。curatorと引いて「学芸員」とちゃんと載っているのはこの辞書だけだろう。少なくとも、今、噂のリーダーズにはなかった。
