作品の主題がなんであるかはっきりとしないところが一つの魅力だと思いますが、
少なくともその大きな要素の一つである「旧人類の過去」、
その一端が今巻で明らかにされます。言うなれば探索モノです。
丸々一冊使って一つの話なだけあり、やや単調な勘もありますが、
そこはそれ、お得意のメタとベタとエスプリで最後まで読ませてくれます。
ロミオさんはタケフィジとエーコムに借りを返されたようですが、
変わらずガツガツしていってくれそうなので、今後にも期待せざるをえません。

短編でも長編でもシーンが短く押し引きが明確だった1、2巻とは異なり
この3巻は冒険譚らしく各シーンが長く、シリーズ初めて構成から長編になっている。
読みやすく可読性の高い文章で難解な構成や内容を扱うのが常の作者だが、
シーンが長くなった分可読性が若干オミットされていることは否めない。
未読者がこの巻から入るのは若干敷居が高いだろう。
さらっと読める1巻に比べると、2巻、3巻、と徐々に読者に頭を使わせる
作りになってきているように思う。

ただそれでも、独特のブラックユーモア（本作はメルヘンに見えて
実は全然メルヘンでない）や饒舌に見えて計算された会話は
相変わらずのロミオ節。「助手さん」執筆の絵本の結末などは
お約束のオチなのにしっかり効果をあげていてある意味
このシリーズを象徴しているし、139〜140頁の「水」のくだりなど、
やっぱりこの人は言葉選びの天才だと感嘆させられた。
ファンにとっては期待を裏切らない一冊。

終末的世界観は芦奈野ひとしの表題作に通じるものがあるが
あれとは違う意味で「オトナ向け」である。
シリーズ未読の方は、序盤20頁を見て購入を決められれば良いかと。

内容は　だんじょんえくすぷろうらぁ　であります。
新キャラ登場であります。
妖精さんがいなくて大ピンチ、でも大活躍であります。
お水は大切であります。

Ｐ子さん大好きであります。
