山好きには温泉ファンが多い。汗だくの臭い体を麓の温泉で清めてこれから下る下界の生活に備えるのだ。しかし、この本の著者は山ではなく温泉に入る目的だけで危険な山道に突入する。車とバイク、そして藪こぎと沢登りを駆使する。時に熊、毒ガス、滑落の危険まで冒し、立ち入り禁止の看板何のその。

そうして見つけた温泉で至福の一時とは行かないところがまた良い。

中には素人でも簡単に行ける温泉も紹介されているので、この本をガイドに尋ねてみるのも良いだろう。もちろん危険な温泉は読んで楽しむだけにしておいた方がよさそうだ。関東以北のみが紹介されているが、この本に触発されて危険温泉探検ファンが全国で大量発生するのではないかと心配になった。

文庫ながら全頁カラーという豪華版です。しかし、その内容は温泉を題材にしつつ“のんびり”“ゆったり”とは無縁のモノ。蛇が泳いでいたり、見た目は沼地以外の何モノでもなかったり…「マジ、そこに入るの~？？？」と思う温泉に著者(兼カメラマン)は時に毒マスクをして入るのです。「何故、そこまでして…」と、もし問えば「そこに温泉があるから」という言葉が返ってきそう。真似できないからこそ面白い、そんな一冊です。

まずタイトルがいい「誰も行けない温泉　命からがら」だなんて。
温泉好きにもこんなガイドブックは珍しいのではないだろうか？

なかなかお目にかかれない内容で、筆者はまさしく命がけで秘湯温泉をレポートする。中にはガスマスクなしでは入れない温泉や、熊の生息地域のどまん中の温泉など、普通に暮らしていれば知る事のない世界を思う存分味わせてくれる。行きたいとは思わないが、よくやるなーと思いつつクスリと楽しめる。
　値段からすればお買い得度２００％超えるかも。
