空を飛びたかっただけの幸吉。そこに野心なんてなかった。あったのは少年のような真っすぐな夢だけ。ただ、その姿は人々には浪漫としてではなく世直しを叫ぶ鵺という希望に映った。幕府の悪政を正すべく奔走する魅力ある男達の知性ある勇気と、期せずして伝説の男となった幸吉の真っすぐな気持ちがミックスされて時代を切り開いていく男達の物語。幼き頃と老年の幸吉に影響を与えた女性おキヌとウタは荒野に咲く小さな花のように物語を和らげている。微細にわたる時代描写、繊細な人物描写、五感に訴える自然描写。類い稀なる読後感。一級品の大衆文学。

購入してから時間が無くて中々読む事が出来なかったのですが、読み始めたら面白くて止まらなくなりました。これぞプロ！と言える詳細な時代考証も良かったですし、何しろ主人公幸吉の生きざまが良いです。
周囲の人々が彼の行動に影響され、今までの安定した暮らしや地位を捨てて迄、悪政に立ち向かって行く姿は、感動的で心揺さぶられる物がありますが、それで幸吉も世の為、人の為空を飛ぼうとする・・・とならない所が気に入りました。彼は決して世直しの為に空を飛ぶのでは無く、むしろ、周囲に迷惑をかけているにも関わらず、空を飛ぼうとする。
ただ飛びたいから、そうせずにはいられないから。
多かれ少なかれ人には、理屈では説明しきれないこの様な感情を持ち合わせているのではないでしょうか？
彼にとって飛ぶという行為に理由付けは不要なのです。

*公儀のお裁きは他国で前例があればそれを踏襲するのが殆どと言う事を本書で初めて知りました。この様な江戸のちょっとした話が色々詰め込まれていて、これも面白いです。

小説の内容は大変面白かった。ただ、このページの出版社/著者からの内容紹介の「マンザイブームの仕掛け人がどうのこうの」という部分は何なのでしょうか？　直してください。
