装丁はポップで可愛らしいのですが、中身は骨太で真面目な仏像解説の本です。とはいえ、イラストがたくさんあるので退屈はしません。うんちく重視というよりも、見た目の楽しさやユニークさを軸に仏像がセレクトされてるのが勝因かな？　これをもってゴールデンウィークは仏像に会いに行きたくなりました。

「仏像の本」というと、抹香臭いとか、内容が難しそう、というイメージなんだけど、この本は全然違う！　仏像の種類とか持ち物とか、テーマごとにかわいいイラストで簡潔に解説されていて、仏像の基本が誰にでもすぐわかる。各地の変わった仏像が紹介されているのも楽しい。アフロ仏像とかピースしてる仏像とか、「ぎゃはは」と笑ったり「ふむふむ」とうなったり、つい読みふけってしまった。今まで十把一絡げに「仏像」としか見ていなかった人も、意識ががらっと変わる珠玉の一冊。

今まで、それほど気にしていなかった仏像たちが
かなり気になり始めました！
「アフロ仏像」「美少年仏像」などネーミングも面白く、
今度、京都〜奈良に行ったときには、この本を持って仏像巡りをしたいと
思います。
