1906年、鍛冶職人・本田儀平の長男として静岡県磐田郡光明村に生まれた本田宗一郎は、15歳にして早くも自動車の修理を自分の天職と決め、青雲の志を抱いて上京する。湯島のアート商会で奉公をして技術を磨き、弱冠18歳で外国製の消防車の修理をやってのけ、並みいる大人たちの度肝を抜く。修業を終え浜松に帰った宗一郎は、アート商会浜松支店の若社長として卓越した技術力と経営の才覚を発揮する。当時の内閣総理大臣以上の給与を稼ぎ、「浜松にアーさんあり」とその名を轟かせる一方、レーシングカーを自作するなど、技術に関することならなんでも採算を度外視して夢中になって克服してしまう天才であった。昭和21年、現在の本田技研工業の前身、本田技術研究所を設立。無線用の発電機を改造して自転車に積んだ簡易オートバイ「バタバタ」の開発、昭和26年に発売したオーバーヘッドバルブ4サイクル・150ccの画期的なオートバイ「ドリーム号E型」の大ヒットで会社の基礎をかため、昭和33年のスーパーカブの驚異的な売り上げが、日本一のバイクメーカーとしての地位を不動にする。そして昭和41年、2輪の世界グランプリで5クラス制覇の完全優勝、念願の「2輪世界一」を手に入れる。翌昭和37年、S360、T360をモーターショーに出品し4輪市場への参入を表明すると同時にF1への進出を世界に向けて宣言、一気に「4輪世界一」へ向けて第一歩を踏み出す。そして、栄光と賞賛の嵐の中であえて後進に道を譲って経営の第一線から退いてからの知られざる日々。頂点にのぼりつめてもなお奢ることなく、一技術者としての王道を求め続けた希代の「自動車職人」の知られざる実像を描く、迫真のコミック評伝。

本田宗一郎について知りたいなと思っていた矢先に、発見して購入。

いわゆる小さな町工場から身を立てて「ホンダ」を築いた男の立志伝だけど、
エンジニアは情熱だということを改めて思い知らされた。
熱中や没頭というパワーは、モノを生み出すためには絶対不可欠。
なんとなく自分に気合を注入したい時にどうぞ。(マンガなので気軽に読めるし)

本書は改めて言うまでもなく、本田技研工業の創業者、本田宗一郎氏の伝記マンガである。
当初、マンガということで、私は子供に読ませるつもりで買った。
ただ、手に取ってみると、子供に読ませるには少々、難解な部分も多く、つまり、マンガになったと言うだけで、書いてあることは一般の経営書と大差ない内容であり、従って、そこに書いてあることは、私にとっては、今更ながらに珍しい話でもなかった。
また、マンガとして描かれたということもあってか、本田宗一郎、そして、事実上の創業経営者であった藤沢武夫の両氏の負の側面については殆ど触れられていなかったという点では、子供向けでも大人向けでもない、少々、中途半端な仕上がりになっていると言えよう。
ただ、それでも、両氏のことをこういう形で見るのは、それなりに新鮮で、特に、最後の方で、若い二人が焼鳥屋で一献傾けながら、「今度の手形は落とせないかもしれない」などという回想するシーンには、思わず、胸が熱くなった。
ホンダのそれは、決して、一直線に成功へ辿り着いたようなしろものではなく、むしろ、成功と失敗とは背中合わせの紙一重だったのだということを実感させられる。

本田宗一郎の漫画です。本田宗一郎好きには知っている内容ばかりですが、
是非子供に読んで欲しいと思います。子供に読んでもらう場合は価格が高いので、
減点1としました。
